Acer Aspire V 17 Nitro Black VN7-793G-709A/758J and VN7 593G Gaming Laptop Reviews

Acer Aspire V-Nitro 2017

While Acer’s Aspire V-Nitro series isn’t new on the market, it is very popular with consumers which lead Acer to update the range each year. We’ve already reviewed the 2015 line, and now, two years later, we think it’s time to do it again. Optically, not too much has changed, under the hood however, we find Intel’s 7th generation processors, DDR4 RAM and a GeFore GTX10-series GPU.

Acer Aspire V-Nitro 2017

Naturally, I got both models here – the base features among both are mostly identical. The 17” model (VN7-7936-767M) just has some more bells and whistles than the 15” one (VN7-593G-73HP). Let’s take a look at the specs first:

  • VN7-593G Display: 39.6 cm (15.6 “) Acer ComfyView ™ Full-HD IPS Display with LED backlight (matt)
VN7-793G Display: 43.9 cm (17.3 “) Acer ComfyView ™ Full-HD IPS Display with LED backlight (matt)
  • Resolution: 1,920 x 1,080 (Full HD), 16: 9
  • Processor: Intel® Core ™ i7-7700HQ processor (4 cores x 2.80 GHz, up to 3.8 GHz Intel Turbo Boost, 6 MB 3rd Level Cache)
  • Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM
  • Memory: 8 GB DDR4
  • Storage: 1,000 GB hard drive
  • Network: Gigabit LAN, wireless LAN 802.11ac / a / b / g / n, 2.4 GHz & 5 GHz, 2 × 2 MU-MIMO
  • Connections: HDMI, 1x USB 3.1 (Type-C Gen. 2, Thunderbolt 3), 2x USB 3.0, 2x USB 2.0, 1x audio, 1x SD card
  • Input devices: backlit keypad with numeric keypad, multi-gesture touchpad with integrated fingerprint reader
  • Sound: 4 stereo speakers, Optimized Dolby® Audio Premium® Sound Enhancement
  • Battery: Li-Polymer battery (4 cells / 4450 mAh), up to 6 hours battery life
  • Dimensions / Weight: 391 x 266 x 24.9 / 22.5 mm (W x D x H) / 2.6 kg
  • Operating System: Microsoft® Windows® 10 Home (64-bit)
  • Special features (only VN7-793G): integrated Tobii Eye Tracking Camera, for viewing in selected games

When it comes to specs, Acer hasn’t been a slouch – with the exception of one aspect: Memory. Both devices only come with an old-fashioned hard drive.  If you want an SSD you will have to add your own. For this, an M.2 PCIe 3.0×4 slot is available so that even a Samsung SSD 960 PRO can fully be taken advantage of. (I’m in UK, in US market, both two models feature SSD)

Acer Aspire VX5-591G-75RM Gaming Laptop Review

Summary:

The Acer Aspire VX 15 (VX5-591G-75RM) is midrange gaming laptop that does okay for itself but doesn’t really do anything extremely well to stand out from its competition. To top it off, its minimalist-ish matte black design may not appeal to everyone. However, what it lacks in standout features and performance, it makes up for with a very attractive price tag, easily making it one of the best value midrange gaming laptops on the market today.

Pros:

  • 256GB SSD.
  • Minimalist-ish look for those who want something different and less flashy
  • Responsive and comfortable full-sized keyboard
  • Above-average battery life

Cons:

  • Bland Full HD screen
  • Doesn’t have as many ports compared to others in its price range
  • Too little storage options

Acer Predator 15 G9-591-70XR Review

Predator emerges as a gaming brand.

The gaming fever seems to be living a great moment. Much it is so, that no brand has wanted to miss out this opportunity and has all joined the trend.

One of the most notable cases is Acer, which until now has concentrated in offering mid-range laptops at a very competitive price. To break with this image as older brands have done in the past, they have developed the Predator family to differentiate themselves from range-computers, with their own nomenclature and personality.

And now we’re going to make inside the first truly portable gaming laptop of the brand an analysis of the Acer Predator 15. We don’t count anymore with an unremarkable design that goes unnoticed, and its features are light years ahead from the rest of the laptops of the brand.

Acer Predator 15

Among the features of the Acer Predator 15, we count with a pointer hardware with an Intel i7 6th generation processor along with a NVIDIA GTX 980M graphic card, also with a primary 256 GB SSD with a 1 TB secondary disk.

It also counts with 16 GB of RAM DDR4 memory that can enlarge itself to 64 GB. We also have a series of innovating features in the cooling system which we will mention next and what makes it so attractive. The predators have come to give a good bite to the market.

Design

If you had to draw in your mind an Acer laptop, the image that you would have would certainly be different from this chassis. We can see how it has made a great effort to make a chassis with very innovating lines, and we can say that it has managed to have its own personality.

It is a high performance, game-oriented device that works with an Intel Core processor i7-6820HK, factory overclocked to 4GHz (base speed of 3.6 Ghz). There’s also a GTX 980 (desktop, not the portable version),also overclocked to 1310 MHz and that can be exchanged for another in the future, as it is implemented in a MXM module.

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-573-57DV User Review (Intel Core i5-5200U, 4GB Ram, 500GB Hard Disk)

Pros – The Acer Aspire E 15 E5-573-57DV offers the best value for money. I got it at a throw away price of only $339 dollars at a sale. To start with, the system boasts of an Intel Core i5 5200 dual core processor clocked at 2.20 GHz. That’s quite a lot for the price point. Another spec that is worth a mention is the keyboard design. It features full-size keys, spaced out well so that you can type faster, accurately and comfortably. There are a lot of other specs such as the 10/100/1000 Ethernet, 802.11ac Wi-Fi featuring MU-MIMO technology, Bluetooth 4.0 and the ability to add a second hard-drive that make it worth every penny.

Cons: Now for the Cons. The one thing we’ve noted about Acer is that upgrading is probably the last thought when designing laptops. If you want to upgrade the hard drive and the RAM, you will have to take the system apart. The OS wasn’t upgraded. You are not given a back-up media, but you can always create it. From my experience with the system, you should create the backup media as soon as you boot it.
