Tips to improve the speed of your Internet connection

If patience is not one of your virtues and you hate waiting for pages you want to read to load, there are some tricks to improve the coverage and speed of your Internet connection that can help you. We present to you some tips to improve the speed of your Internet connection.

# 1 Does your router support ADSL2?

Old routers not always support ADSL2 or VDSL.

Usually when you change how you connect to the Internet, an updated modem or a new router is provided, but it is always best to check.

Tip 1: Check with the manufacturer of your router to see if it supports the maximum speed of your connection.

# 2 Optimize WLAN devices settings

In a home there may be various obstacles that affect internet coverage.

The worst obstacles for the WiFi network are steel and components containing or carrying water, such as water pipes, floor heating and wood. This can reduce the wireless speed greatly.

Tip 2: Change your router’s placing. Sometimes just removing it from the ground or from the table and placing it on top of a closet or even move it a couple of meters to the side. If you want the WiFi to reach several floors, place the router’s WiFi antenna horizontally.

You can also increase the range of your WiFi router using repeaters.

# 3 Perform ADSL testing from a single device

When you connect to the internet through a router, you have the advantage that you can surf the net with several devices simultaneously.

What happens then is that the Internet is divided between the respective devices. The more computers or smartphones are connected to the network, the lower the connection speed results.

Tip 3: Performs ADSL speed test only when there is one computer connected to the network router.

# 4 Set the network card with TCP Optimizer

The network card must be properly configured on your desktop computer. And, as a rule, it usually is. But in case it is not, the TCP Optimizer software adjusts the settings for your ADSL connection.

Tip 4: Use the TCP Optimizer application to set your network card or WiFi spefically for your ADSL connection.

# 5 Do not change your ADSL provider immediately

Is your ADSL slow? Often the first reaction is to want to change providers, but beware: this does not always improve the situation.

The competing companies will not necessarily offer faster access, because in many cases they all use the same lines and the same network technology.

Tip 5: Fluctuations in ADSL speed for short periods of time are normal. Only with long-term measurements you can show without a doubt that your connection is slow, but not in a timely manner but as a general rule.

# 6 Assign a new channel for your wireless router

Do you use a wireless router? Then maybe neighboring networks are affecting the performance of your Wi-Fi, especially in crowded cities.

Tip 6: Change the channel of the router. Often routers are configured on the same channel. With applications like inSSIDer you can test to see which channels are devices running in the area, so you can choose one of the less crowded.

# 7 Buy a new router with faster WLAN

If your router is quite a few years old, you may not be able to reach speeds of 16Mb ADSL and more. The routers that transmit data in the G WLAN standard work too slowly, but among the current models there are still some differences in speed.

Tip 7: Those with a router with B or G standard, should switch to a standard N router. The data transfer rate of the latter is much higher.  Read More: Best Wireless Router

#8 Ask your provider

If the tips above have not worked, it is likely that the low rate is not due to the use you give to your devices or any incorrect settings.

Tip 8: When all else fails, we always have the option of contacting the ADSL provider. It may not always help, but at least in some cases they may provide some clarification through accurate measurements of the line.
