Neutral dynamic DNS Client for Android

Many of us have DNS registry services that offer free dynamic DNS services and therefore we have to rely on services like no-ip, dynDNS, etc. Today I will introduce you a neutral app and show you how to use it.

The application in question is: Dynamic DNS client. You can download it from the Play Store and it is completely free! One of its advantages is that it doesn’t depend on any particular service, it doesn’t require root and it is capable of updating through Wi-Fi or 3G/4G, making it quite versatile.

I guess it is not necessary to explain how to install this, so let’s get to the point. In this lines I will shows you how I connected a dynamic registry from a particular vendor, although this is not valid for every vendor. We will need our provider’s updates domain, the one in charge of the requests and dynamic DNS updates, a hostname or a registry DNS to be updated, username and password.

You will need to contact your provider in order to get the DNS update domain. I will user OVH (update domain: www.ovh.com) and a dynamic registry I created for my personal domain *.jav.ovh. We will just need to add the domain, username and password we created by our provider and then just run the “Dynamic DNS client” service. It will automatically notify you of each ip change of your Android device.

This app is also compatible with standard dynamic DNS services like the aforementioned ones. They all use the same type of system. The key is having the right data.
