Hi Everyone,

Today I want to share some tips on how to color your hair naturally at home, without using harsh chemicals on your hair. I myself have grey hair and I really have never applied any chemical (dye, hair color etc) on my hair. According to National Cancer Institute about 5000 carcinogenic chemical are found in general hair dyes. I found some interesting, yet simple tips of coloring hair at home that might be useful to you. Heena (Mehendi) is a traditional way we color our hair, but we can only get brown (slight orange shade) with that and also it drys out hair for some people. By the tips mentioned below not only you can get a good brown shade, but other colors also. So here we go….

Coffee
Coffee is one thing which is easily available in our homes. A study published in the International Journal of Dermatology told that coffee can provide hair growth benefits as a stimulant for hair follicles. Coffee has properties of giving shine, a good brown color and hair growth.
Procedure:
Make a strong organic coffee (espresso preferable), which is easily available online as normal coffee might have chemicals. Cool it down and mix it with 2 cups of leave in conditioner, 2 tbsp of organic coffee grounds and 1 cup cold brewed coffee. Apply this mixture on your hair and leave it in for about an hour. It gives a beautiful chocolate color without any damage to your hair.
Or
Shampoo your hair and then pour coffee over your hair. Leave it for 20 minutes. Use apple cider vinegar to rinse the coffee out of your hair (for sealing the color). Rinse it off with warm water. If you don’t see the desired results, repeat the same process for a few days in a row to allow the coffee to penetrate your hair.
Lemon
Lemon not only color your hair, but can also can help remove built up materials like shampoo or styling products; which makes your hair heavy and limp. It also removes excess oil without giving away too much of natural oil that hair needs to keep the ends of your hair strong and maintained. This is also a great way to remove dandruff that causes the scalp to become itchy and uncomfortable. By removing build up on the scalp we can also help our hair grow more effectively. Because of it’s bleaching action it can be easily used for making the hair blonde.
Procedure:
Take 4 to 6 medium size lemons (or according to your hair length) and put it in a spray bottle. Spray it in your hair and dry it in the sun for 1 hour to get dark blonde hair and 3 hours to get light blonde hair.
Rinse it with water and condition.
Tomato
It is the most easily available ingredient in our home. Using it in food makes our eye site good, control heart rate etc…. But, who knew that it can also be used to color hair.
Procedure:
Take tomatoes according to your hair length and mash it properly. Apply the mixture to your hair and let it dry out in the sun for 1 to 3 hours to get desired hair color.
Rinse it with water and condition.
Beetroot
You must have seen the blood red color of beetroot while using it. Apart from its medicinal properties like antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and fungicidal, it can also be applied for coloring your hair with the procedure given below.
Procedure:
Take some beetroot according to your hair length and puree them. As I have already mentioned, dry it out in the sun for 1 to 3 hours to get desired hair color.
Rinse it with water and condition.
That’s it guys. It is my first article and I am a bit nervous. Do let me know how you like it by commenting.

Hi Jyoti,
Make sure you use a very good conditioner during the lemon juice process, as the juice and sun are harsh and will dry hair out. Use conditioner every time after this method.
