• 500 MB for each referral and earn a maximum of up to 16 GB for Dropbox Basic accounts
• 1 GB for every referral and earn a maximum of up to 32 GB for Dropbox Plus and Professional accounts

However, besides their ever-changing referral program, the technique I use to get more and more referrals still works in 2024. I keep refining and tweaking it to stay up to date with Dropbox new policy and algorithmic changes.

How to Leverage Dropbox Referral Program

Dropbox gives you 500 MB space per referral. You can invite a maximum of 32 friends and get up to 16 GB space for free.

Nobody has such a large number of friends in the circle who can use it to their advantage. You can still do it yourself!  Here are few simple steps you can use to send some free referrals to your dropbox account. 

Step-1 Change your IP Address

The first step to undertake is to change your IP address.  The easiest and free way to change your IP address is to install GeoProxy Chrome Plugin.

The process is easy and simple. Select any country and you’ll get a range of IP address. Randomly select IP address and restart your Chrome browser. Your IP is changed!  Use IP Chicken to confirm that your ip address is changed.

Do not try to do it from the same IP address, other wise dropbox would block your IP address and you won’t be credited anymore. 

Once you have changed your IP address, the next step is to create a new email address. It doesn’t have to be unique, just a regular Email created with Gmail, or Yahoo is ok. In case you may be having any difficulty with the popular email service providers, you can use free service called 10 Minute Email.

With the ten-minute Email service, you can create a disposable email address that can only last for 10 minutes.

At this point, you should be having a new IP address and new Email address.

Step-2 Grab your Referral Link and Send Invite.

The second step is now to send a referral link to your new Email address. Here is step by step process to grab your referral link

To invite someone from Dropbox.com

1. Log on to dropbox.com
2. Click the avatar on the top of any page.
3. Select Settings.
4. Select Refer a friend.
5. You can invite friends using an email address. Enter the email address you created in Step-1

Alternatively, you can go to https://www.dropbox.com/account/referrals and click on invite.

Step-3 Install DropBox on New Machine (Using New MAC address)

Now  you have a New IP address, and an email invite in your inbox that you sent to yourself in Step-2, the final step to undertake is to accept the invite and install Dropbox on your supposedly new machine to claim your free space.

But before that, you need first to change your MAC address before accepting the invite. Because dropbox track your MAC address and if you keep using the same address for each invite it won’t work and you will not any credit. 

First you have to  remove your browser cookies.

To change your MAC address, you can use a free software called Technitium MAC Address Changer. Here are step by step instructions you can use to change your MAC address using Technitium.

1. Starting MAC address changer will list all available network adapters.
2. Select the adapter you want to change the MAC address. You will get the details of your selection below.
3. In the Information tab, find the Change MAC Address frame. Enter new MAC address in the field and click Change Now! button. You may even click Random MAC Address button to fill up a randomly selected MAC address from the vendor list available.
4. To restore the original MAC address of the network adapter, select the adapter, click Restore Original button in the Change MAC Address frame.

After you have changed your MAC address, now you can accept the invite, and create a new Dropbox account. Now that you spoofed your mac address, Dropbox won’t know that you are on the same computer.

Sign up and verify the Email address. Complete the process by downloading the Dropbox application on your machine.

Congrats! You got some FREE Space!
