MSI OPTIX MPG27CQ : WQHD, 144Hz, 1800R, VA with a pinch of ASUS ROG DNA

Display manufacturers must not be very happy at the moment since they haven’t had very many innovations to offer consumers as of late. It seems that they have been waiting impatiently for the day when they are able to release G-Sync HDR and FreeSync 2 onto the market (but we haven’t had any updates about these systems in a while). Maybe one day they will get around to releasing these technologies! In the mean time, these manufacturers need to keep the wheels of their business machines turning; that is what MSI is doing by releasing its OPTIX MPG27CQ.

This display is equipped with a curved 1800R VA WQHD (2560 x 1440) display panel with a maximum refresh rate of 144 Hz (via adaptive-Sync) and a response time of 1 ms; it covers the sRGB and NTSC color spaces, up to 115 and 100% respectively. Its maximum luminosity is 400 cd/m² and it has a contrast ratio of 3000:1. It also has a relatively extensive range of connectivity options: 2 HDMI 2.0 ports, 1 DisplayPort 1.2, 2 USB 3.1 Gen1 Type-A ports and one USB 3.1 Type-B port.

It seems like MSI may have recruited a few designers from its competitor ASUS since, aesthetically speaking, the MPG27CQ closely resembles ASUS ROG displays and has some of the same visual characteristics as well. We do however wonder whether the strip of LEDs at the bottom of the display has any practical utility at all… The MPG27CQ can be adjusted in all directions – including height – in order to suit your needs; its relatively thin borders also make it suitable for a multi-display setup!

For now, we will need to content ourselves with looking at the few available pictures of this display until MSI decides to give out more information regarding the ASUS ROG MPG27CQ’s availability and price.
